Baptism Sunday (Joint, Family)

  |   All Locations

Baptism is a fundamental part of the Christian faith, the primary symbol and expression of our new life together in Christ. Since its beginnings, the church has baptized those who have become disciples of Christ, committed to him, his community, and his cause. GCCC is baptizing people on May 3 this year at our Tysons […]

Welcome

Sunday Service begins at 11:00am usually at the Westin Hotel Crystal City on the second floor. Location changes will always be listed on our website and through social media.

We dress casually, so feel free to come as you are!

During our worship, we pray together, sing together, hear stories from people in the church community, speak Christian Scripture together, and hear a sermon based on that Scripture together. We have three goals in our worship:

  1. To encounter God’s Spirit
  2. To tell the story of God
  3. To be formed to think and love as God does

We invite you to participate from your heart, even if you’re new (or new again) to Jesus and the church, even if you’re not sure about some things about Jesus, even if you feel like there’s a right way to worship that you don’t know how to do. We invite you to sing with us, pray with us, and listen with us, because God invites us all to these things.

Garage Parking

Families with newborns, individuals with disabilities, and first-time visitors are welcome to use our complimentary parking in the hotel’s garage. There is a QR code on the Welcome Table, where you will be prompted for your vehicle’s license plate number.  When you leave the garage, they will scan your license plate to open the turnstile.  If it doesn’t work, you can press the call button on the turnstile to speak to the hotel’s front desk.

There is free parking at the lot on the corner of S Eads St. and 22nd St S. The Westin is a block north on the corner of S Eads St. and 18th St S.

Street Parking

There is free street parking along the perimeter of the hotel. All metered parking around the hotel is free on Sundays (e.g., S Eads St, S Fern St, 18th St, etc.).

The Westin Hotel is located off the yellow and blue lines at the Crystal City Metro Station. The church is half a block away (about a 2-minute walk).

We hope the following helps your family plan for your first visit to GCCC. For specific questions about God’s Garden, email Pastor at Erika at erika.thornton@greatcommissioncc.org

Child Check-In

When you arrive, head to the God’s Garden check-in table in the lobby of the 2nd floor. To ensure your child’s safety, we check every child in the lobby and again in their classroom or small group. When the service is over, we only release children when a parent has checked them out. If this is your first time at GCCC, we will ask for your family’s information so we can get to know you better.

Where does my child go after check-in?

Once you check in, we will let you know which rooms we are meeting in. We begin in Large Group, where we gather together in a big group and have fun worshiping Jesus, dancing, singing, exploring the Bible together, and building community.

After Large Group, we head to Small Groups. In Small Groups, children have space to process the Biblical narrative together and explore age-appropriate ways to apply God’s Word. We understand children process what they learn through play so we build in time for crafts, games, and STEM.

All our God’s Garden Volunteers undergo background checks, reference screenings, and safety trainings to ensure your child is safe when you leave them with us. We do not allow anyone in our God’s Garden spaces who is not a fully trained and screened God’s Garden volunteer.

What if my child needs me during the service?

If your child needs you during the service, we will text you and ask you to come to their location. To ensure your child’s safety we will ask you to come and change their diaper if needed during the service.  Nursing moms are welcome to nurse in the main meeting room or in the nursery, whichever if easiest for your family.
